Boss Pedal Review #18: Boss EH-2 Enhancer Ok, so what the heck does the EH-2 do? Well, from my experience with the pedal, it's basically like an 'intelligent' EQ. There are comparisons to the 'Sonic Maximizer' from BBE, but I think that's more like an EQ/ Compressor that brings out the highs and lows. The EH-2 really just operates within the higher frequency spectrum. You set the EQ knob to the desired frequency, and you get a nice boost in that range. This is what each knob does: The Mix knob controls the amount of dry vs affected signal. At 12:00, you get the dry signal only. Towards the left, you get an effected signal with a negative phase, and towards the right, you get an effected signal with a normal positive phase. That's me paraphrasing the manual. The Frequency knob is simple. It determines the frequency you are affecting. I have found that past 12:00, the frequency gets so high, you can barely hear anything. It's best to set it at 12:00 or below. The Sensitivity knob is something I actually didn't really touch on in the video. I should have. Basically, you can adjust how much of the effected signal gets through by way of your picking attack. Towards the right, the effects of the pedal are heard always, and more towards the left, you hear the pedal the harder you play. Obviously, this varies depending on where you set the pedal. For the demo, I left it on 12:00. Ok, so what are some practical applications for the EH-2? In my opinion, there are 2 main ones. The first, is to change the tonality of your pickups. For example, if I was playing a dark guitar with humbuckers and I needed a Stratty singlecoil sound for a single part or song, I could stomp on the pedal and that clarity and high-end would be there. This might save you from bringing a Strat to a gig for one song. The other use would be to just add high end that might get lost from long cable runs, or just add clarity in general. Overall, I really enjoyed the EH-2. It was a mystery at first, but after an hour with it, I really can see some actual applications for the pedal. -Cameron Johnson Music by Atma Weapon atmaweaponnc.bandcamp.com facebook.com/atmaweaponnc
