Welcome to the Boss Pedal Project! This is my attempt to collect and review every Boss compact pedal ever made. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss a review! Episode 58: 'Original' Boss OD-1 Overdrive Ok, so I have some explaining to do. Yes, I've already reviewed the Boss OD-1. But, this one is different! Yes, I promise. Like many other Boss pedals, The OD-1 has gone through several circuit changes and revisions. Most notably, the Op Amp has been swapped several times over the years. The most sought after of which is the RC3403ADB Op Amp. This was used in the first two versions of the circuit, until it was changed to the famous 4558 (used in the Ibanez Tube Screamer, plus a million others). The pedal I'm reviewing in the video is from 1978, and has the RC3403ADB 14 pin chip. Ok, so how does it sound? Well, in front of the Low Input of my Marshall 2203, not great. It's way too dark. Now to be fair, I had the EXACT same thing to say for the other OD-1 I reviewed (Episode 14 I Believe). The tone is a little too dark in front of the low input. But where this pedal shines, is in front of the High Input! It's hot-rodded Marshall heaven! I don't miss the tone knob one bit. Just set your level at noon, and your gain to taste. This is how I use my OD-1 and it's awesome. So, I haven't done a shootout between the OD-1 versions yet, but I'd be curious to see how they fair, and if the early OD-1 hype warrants the crazy price difference. -Cameron Johnson Music by Atma Weapon atmaweaponnc.bandcamp.com facebook.com/atmaweaponnc
