Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss a review! Episode 59: Boss OC-3 Super Octave Way back in episode 4, I demoed the Boss OC-2 Octaver. I do like that pedal, but I just don't have much use for octave pedals in general. The same is basically true for the OC-3. It's a good pedal, but it's just not something I'd ever put on a pedalboard. Regardless, et's dive in! The OC-3 is essentially an upgraded version of the OC-2. They both share the same Octave 1, Octave 2, and Direct volume knobs, but the OC-3 also has 3 modes. These modes include a Drive mode for overdriven octave tones, a standard mode (like the OC-2), and a polyphonic mode. In addition, the OC-3 has an input for bass guitar, and 2 outputs (direct, and main out). This is to run the dry and wet signals into different amps, if that's your thing. Back to the modes: I much prefer the good ol' standard mode. You can get your octave kicks and it operates exactly like the OC-2. The Drive mode is cool, but it is a synthy drive. Not something you'd necessarily want to have on except for specific applications. The Polyphonic mode is neat, but I wasn't sold. The POG by EHX does a much better job. Overall, it tracks well. Not as good as my POG, but as good as you'd expect a Boss Octave pedal to track. I'd recommend a compressor in front, and be clean with your playing. Overall, the OC-3 is a good pedal. I'm not a huge fan, but that's more of a personal preference thing, vs a 'this pedal isn't good' thing.
